Howes and Wayko
OUR CARE
At Howes & Wayko, we design every piece with lasting quality and everyday wear in mind. Our products are crafted from premium materials chosen for both their performance and timeless character, and with the right care, they’ll serve you beautifully for years to come. Treating them thoughtfully ensures they retain their look, feel, and reliability, so you get the most from what you invest in.
Our leather products are crafted from high-quality natural leather chosen for its strength, durability, and timeless character. Leather is a natural material that develops a rich patina over time, meaning each piece will age uniquely depending on how it is used and cared for. With the right care, leather accessories such as cartridge bags, pouches, and gun slips can last for many years while maintaining their appearance and performance.
Care
Wipe the leather regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and surface dirt. For deeper cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth with a small amount of gentle leather cleaner or mild soap diluted in water. Work gently and avoid soaking the leather, as excess moisture can cause damage.
Allow the leather to dry naturally at room temperature and keep it away from direct heat sources such as radiators or hair dryers. Once dry, apply a quality leather conditioner occasionally using a soft cloth to keep the material supple and protected.
When not in use, store leather items in a dust bag or breathable cloth cover and lightly fill them with tissue paper to help maintain their shape.
Our tweed pieces are made using traditional wool fabrics valued for their durability, warmth, and distinctive texture. Tweed is naturally resilient, but like all wool materials it benefits from gentle care to maintain the integrity of the weave and fibres over time.
Care
Brush the fabric regularly with a soft clothes brush to remove dust and surface dirt, always following the direction of the weave. After use, allow tweed items to air out naturally to help maintain freshness.
For small marks, gently blot the area with a clean cloth lightly dampened with cold water, then allow the fabric to air dry. Avoid rubbing, as this can disturb the fibres.
For deeper cleaning, dry cleaning is recommended for structured items. If hand washing is suitable for softer accessories, use cold water with a mild wool detergent, press out excess water gently, and lay flat to dry.
Avoid hot water, tumble drying, or harsh detergents, as these can shrink or distort the wool fibres. When not in use, store tweed items in a cool, dry place in a breathable cover to protect the fabric.
Our silk accessories are made from delicate natural fibres chosen for their softness, lightness, and refined finish. Silk is a luxurious material that should be handled with care to preserve its smooth texture and appearance over time.
Care
Handle silk gently and avoid contact with perfumes, oils, or harsh chemicals that may stain or damage the fibres. If cleaning is required, hand wash in cold water using a mild detergent.
Do not wring or twist the fabric. Instead, lay flat or hang to air dry away from direct heat or direct sunlight. If needed, iron on a low setting to restore a smooth finish.
Our exotic leather pieces are crafted from carefully selected hides known for their distinctive texture and natural character. These materials are valued for their durability and unique surface patterns, which develop additional depth over time. With gentle care, exotic leathers will retain their suppleness and refined appearance for many years.
Care
Wipe the surface regularly with a soft, dry microfiber cloth, following the natural grain of the leather. Dust can gather around raised textures or natural follicles, which can be gently cleaned using a very soft brush.
For light marks, use a slightly damp cloth with clean lukewarm water and wipe gently before drying immediately with a soft cloth. Avoid soaking the leather, as exotic skins can absorb moisture quickly.
Condition occasionally using a small amount of exotic leather conditioner or a neutral leather cream. Apply lightly with a soft cloth, allow it to absorb, then buff gently to restore the finish.
Avoid alcohol cleaners, household sprays, saddle soap, or silicone products, as these can strip natural oils and damage the leather. When not in use, store items in a breathable dust bag and keep them away from direct sunlight or excess moisture.
Our wooden presentation boxes are crafted from natural hardwood, selected for its strength, distinctive grain, and refined appearance. Over time, wood develops subtle character as it responds to its environment, making each piece unique. With gentle care, the box will continue to protect and present your flask while maintaining its natural finish and engraved detailing.
Care
Dust regularly using a soft cloth, wiping with the natural grain of the wood. For grooves or detailed areas, a soft brush can be used to remove dust without scratching the surface.
If light cleaning is required, wipe gently with a slightly damp cloth and dry immediately with a clean cloth. Avoid soaking the wood or allowing moisture to sit on the surface.
To maintain the richness of the wood, apply a small amount of beeswax polish, mineral oil, or furniture wax occasionally. Rub lightly with the grain, allow it to absorb for a few minutes, then buff gently with a soft cloth.
Avoid household sprays, alcohol cleaners, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the finish and affect the engraved details.
Our suede pieces are made from soft, finely finished leather with a distinctive velvety texture. Suede is naturally delicate and benefits from gentle handling to maintain its appearance and structure.
Care
If suede becomes wet or dirty, allow it to dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight. Once dry, gently brush the surface with a soft suede brush to remove dust and restore the natural texture.
Avoid using chemical cleaners or treatments, as these may damage the material or alter the finish.
